The Polish national team started the new edition of the Nations League with a 3:2 win over Scotland. In Glasgow, the White and Reds were leading 2:0 at half-time after goals by Sebastian SzymaĆski and Robert Lewandowski, but in the second half, the Scots equalized. The result was established by Nicola Zalewski, using a penalty kick in the added time of the second half.
Robert Lewandowski summed up the match with Scotland. “We know what we did well”
Robert Lewandowski left the pitch in the 72nd minute when he was replaced by Adam Buksa. After the match, the captain of the Polish national team gave an interview to TVP Sport, in which he summed up what happened on the pitch in the capital of Scotland.
– It's hard to give a clear verdict. We're leading 2-0, it seemed that everything was under control, but we start the second half and create our own problems. It seems that we can't be too calm. In the end, this victory is important. There were some nerves in the second half, but we calmed them down at the right moment and we dotted the i's and the t's – he said.
– From the perspective of the Nations League, this is an important victory and we know what we did well. We also know what mistakes we made or what we shouldn't make at this level. This is football. Even though we made mistakes, we still won. Kudos to the team for that. We deserved to win – he added.
Lewandowski pointed out that the Poles were well on the attack in the second half with the score at 2:1 and stated that a third goal was missing, which would have calmed the match down. At the same time, he assessed that in the first half the Scots may have had the ball at their feet more often, but nothing came of it.
– Offensive formation? We played with offensive players in different positions and that was something new for us. I think we tried to find our way in this formation relatively quickly. It may look even better in each subsequent match. It is hard to expect automaticity to appear in the national team right away. Such a difficult terrain as here, and we win, although not everything worked out for us and score three goals. Glory to the boys, glory to us, that we start the Nations League with a victory – said Lewandowski, referring to the composition of the Polish national team, which lacked a typical defensive midfielder.
Lewandowski gives reassuring news. He will be ready for the match with Croatia
– My change? I felt the fall. I felt discomfort and pain. It bothered me a bit. Let's not kid ourselves. This season will be extremely difficult. There will be over 70 of these matches. I knew that if I took the risk, tomorrow or the day after tomorrow it could be even worse. I knew that there were guys ready to play. There is nothing major behind this change – the captain of the Polish national team reassured.
The next match the Poles will play away against Croatia on Sunday, September 8 at 20:45. The coverage of this match will be available on Sport.pl and in the Sport.pl LIVE mobile application.
