Lex anti-TVN is to be debated by the Sejm on Wednesday at 11.30. After the Covenant has left the United Right, it is uncertain whether Law and Justice will gather a majority to vote for this amendment. On tvn24.pl, we report on the session of the Sejm and the political events that preceded it.
On Wednesday, MEPs will address the issue a draft amendment to the Broadcasting Act called lex anti-TVN. This project – by PiS MPs – in the opinion of commentators, targets the independence of TVN. Many journalists, politicians and institutions protested against the changes in the media law.
According to the schedule of the Sejm, lex anty-TVN will be debated at the very beginning of the session at 11.30. There will be five-minute speeches for club representatives and three-minute speeches for representatives of parliamentary circles.
The Agreement left the United Right on Wednesday morning. This is due to the Prime Minister’s decision to dismiss Jarosław Gowin. Without a Law and Justice Agreement, it may not have a majority to vote its legislative proposals.
TVN24 is waiting for the license extension
TVN24 is still waiting for its license extension. The application in this matter was submitted to the National Broadcasting Council in February last year, and has not yet been considered.
Station management in a statement he wrote that in 2015 the National Broadcasting Council approved the entry of American capital into TVN. Since 2016 – under the same ownership conditions – KRRiT has already issued licenses for TVN24 BiS, TTV and TVN International West. Two votes in the National Broadcasting Council took place on July 22nd regarding the license for TVN24. However, no decisions were made.
