What has been done is an absolute disgrace to both the ruling camp and the president, said Borys Budka from the Civic Coalition on TVN24. Politicians discussed the so-called Lex Tusk Act, which the president first signed and announced an amendment a few days later. Deputy Minister of Development and Technology Olga Semeniuk emphasized that “we must not miss the overriding goal of this anti-Putin lex, not the lex-Tusk project.”

President Andrzej Duda announced on Friday that it would submit to the Sejm a draft amendment to the law establishing a commission for examining Russian influence. Four days earlier, on Monday, the president signed the law and announced that he would refer it to the Constitutional Tribunal under the procedure of subsequent review.

The president’s decision was commented on Sunday by politicians in “Kawa na Ława” on TVN24.

Zybertowicz: The president took into account how many false opinions there were in the world

Presidential adviser Professor Andrzej Zybertowicz said that Andrzej Duda “took into account how many false opinions in favor of this law there were in the world and that it was necessary to move forward”. – Regardless of the facts, Poland has been burdened with a lot of baseless accusations and therefore the president decided that it would be more appropriate to modify it – he added.

– Even if someone persistently tells untruths about us, but this voice meets with a wide resonance, it produces certain social facts that may be unfavorable for Poland – said Zybertowicz.

Semeniuk: the overarching goal must not be missed

Deputy Minister of Development and Technology Olga Semeniuk z PIS she emphasized that “we must not miss the overarching goal of this anti-Putin lex project, and not lex-Tusk, as the opposition and part of the journalistic environment try to call it.” – The overriding goal of this law is to eliminate the Russian side from all social and economic arrangements. Today, the whole world is protected against Russiaand part of the opposition is trying to lead to a Polish-Polish war, she argued.

– It is the parliament that will decide how it will respond to the president’s amendments – added the deputy minister.

Budka: the president once again fails the Polish constitution exam

Boris Budka from the Civic Coalition said that “it is terrifying that the president once again fails the exam in the Polish constitution.”

– In a normal country, if the president has anything to say in his own political camp, he would call President Kaczyński and say: “I will not sign the bill. If there are no such and such provisions, I will veto.” Then there are political negotiations and the president has something to say. What has been done is an absolute disgrace to both the ruling camp and the president, he assessed.

Zgorzelski: I do not give this amendment too much chance for quick processing

– Mr. President Jaroslaw Kaczynski He said unequivocally that the president had agreed this decision with his closest associates. And here the president probably put a full stop. Reading this statement in PiS, it should be explained in this way: If the president did not consult this amendment with his political environment, then let him – colloquially speaking – swing with this amendment himself – commented Piotr Zgorzelski, deputy speaker of the Sejm from PSL.

He added that “it does not give too much chance for this amendment to proceed quickly.”

Dziemianowicz-Bąk: the act on the commission should be abolished

– The only amendment, the only law that should be processed by the Polish parliament regarding this committee is the law that was submitted by the Left two days ago – said the MP of this party, Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk.

– This act begins with the words: “The Act of April 14, 2023 on the state commission for examining Russian influence on the internal security of the Republic of Poland in the years 2007-2022 expires” – she explained.

She stressed that the Left “is in favor of studying Russian influence in Poland.” – We believe that for the last eight years it could have been done, for example by an investigative committee. This overarching goal is extremely important – she emphasized.

Kobosko: the commission has at its inception an original sin, a certain evil, fatal intention

Michał Kobosko from Poland 2050 said that “the commission has at its inception an original sin, a certain evil, fatal anti-democratic, anti-constitutional intention.” – How can she start working well? It’s impossible, out of the question, he said.

– Of course, Russian influences have to be followed, because they exist, that’s how Russia works. But in no country, with no similar commission, did it occur to the creators to create such a commission with one goal – to cut opposition politicians out during the pre-election period. That was her basic premise, he said.
