This whole issue reeks of politics from the very beginning and today we have the punchline – said on Wednesday the chairman of the Civic Coalition, Donald Tusk, when asked about the report of the “lex Tusk” commission. – Even people commenting neutrally on these issues knew from the very beginning what this commission was supposed to do – he added. In the evening, the Sejm dismissed the committee members.
On Wednesday evening, the Sejm dismissed members of the State Commission for investigating Russian influence on the internal security of the Republic of Poland in 2007-2022, known as the “lex Tusk” commission.
Earlier in the day, the committee presented an interim report on three months of its work. The Commission, among others recommends that Donald TuskJacek Cichocki, Bogdan Klich, Tomasz Siemoniak, Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz was not entrusted with public positions responsible for state security. – Their poor supervision led to incorrect actions of the Military Counterintelligence Service – said Andrzej Zybertowicz, a former member of this committee.
Tusk: this whole thing stinks
Before the vote on the dismissal of the commission members, Donald Tusk was asked about the commission’s recommendations. – Even people commenting neutrally on these issues knew from the very beginning what this commission was supposed to do and what these people were called to do, so I’m certainly not surprised – he replied.
– This only confirms the validity of quick decisions regarding the work of this committee and its members. One of the first steps we will take is to thoroughly check whether this committee has ever met, what materials it used, and whether the rumors about the removal, copying and transfer of restricted materials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to unauthorized persons are confirmed. This whole thing reeks of politics from the very beginning and today we have the end of it, he said.
The PO leader was also asked whether there was a chance that his government would be presented on December 11. – Tomorrow I will talk about the calendar of activities with the Speaker of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia. Probably on December 11 or 12, there will be a vote on the new government, the real one. It doesn’t really matter whether it’s December 11 or 12. Poles will live to see it, he added.
When asked whether the composition of his government was ready, he replied in the affirmative.
Hołownia: committee members earn a lot of money
The Marshal of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia, commented on the issue of the “lex Tusk” commission even before the vote. – Members of the “lex Tusk” committee, in my opinion and not only mine, hence this motion, receive state money, very large amounts of money, working in luxurious offices at our expense, without doing any work that could be assessed as so critical. important for the Polish state – said Hołownia.
He added that the process of appointing this commission itself has been questioned many times. – If it ruled Poland for eight years Law and Justice, which has full control over all secret services, what does it not know about the Russian influence that was supposed to take place in Poland? – asked the Speaker of the Sejm.
– Is Mr. Cenckiewicz (former chairman of the commission for investigating Russian influence) better than the Military Counterintelligence Service, the Intelligence Agency, and the Internal Security Agency? Are these services so lame that now you have to call on Mr. Cenckiewicz for help and pay him several thousand or 20 thousand zlotys, because I don’t know how much the chairman ultimately receives to help the officers? What testimony does this give us on the public stage, including the international one, regarding the efficiency of our state security apparatus? – Hołownia asked.
As he noted, “if the services have done nothing in this matter for eight years, neither will a group of historians.” – And this problem needs to be solved today. However, the services need to be repaired as soon as possible so that the Sejm does not have to defend their activities with the help of ad hoc committees, because I interpret the establishment of the committee, the so-called “lex Tusk”, primarily as a self-review of the Law and Justice team, which helplessly admitted that is unable to ensure Poles’ safety from Russian influence, so he must call on Mr. Cenckiewicz and his eight or nine colleagues for help, said Hołownia.
