The councilors of the Sejmik of the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship adopted a resolution on “respect for the centuries-old tradition and culture of the Republic of Poland as well as equality and fair treatment.” At the same time, the position “against LGBT ideology” was repealed.
An extraordinary session was convened by the chairman of the regional council, Andrzej Prus (PiS). There were two main items on the agenda. The first concerned information on the position of the European Commission on the suspension of payments from the REACT EU program.
In the second, the councilors considered a draft resolution adopting a position on “respect for the centuries-old tradition and culture of the Republic of Poland as well as equality and fair treatment”. It was predicted that with the adoption of this position, the anti-LGBT resolution of June 2019 will cease to have effect.
25 councilors voted in favor of the resolution, and three abstained from voting. Two people were absent.
The European Commission on the resolutions of the regional assemblies
In early September, the European Commission sent a letter to the authorities of five Polish provinces, including Świętokrzyski, which adopted resolutions opposing the “LGBT ideology”, stressing the importance of responding to the call “to rectify the infringement”. At the same time, the EC suspended talks with the regions on the disbursement of funds from the REACT-EU program.
