The National Broadcasting Council has extended its license for TVN24, the spokesman for the Council, Teresa Brykczyńska, announced Wednesday evening. She noted that the Supervisory Board had adopted a resolution before voting. The station has been waiting for the license extension for over a year and a half.
The application for the license extension was submitted to the National Broadcasting Council in February 2020. The council met again on Wednesday. The meeting began after 11:00. After 7:00 p.m. Teresa Brykczyńska, spokeswoman for the National Broadcasting Council, announced that KRRIT had completed the procedure for the recession for the TVN24 program. She added that an absolute majority of votes was obtained in the vote.
– Four votes were in favor of granting the concession, one vote against – Brykczyńska said.
Earlier, she said that before the vote, “The National Council worked out a draft resolution, which was unanimously adopted. This resolution is the result of many months of analyzes carried out as part of the licensing procedure for the TVN24 news program. Resolution No. 230/2021 is a resolution on taking steps to organize rules of broadcasting radio and television programs in Poland in the scope of activities of entities from outside the European Economic Area “.
When asked by journalists, what is the convergence between the licensing process and the adopted resolution, she stated that “it is essential, because without this resolution the National Council (Radio and Television – ed.) Will not vote on the license”.
TVN24 previously obtained a Dutch broadcasting license.
License for TVN24
The National Broadcasting Council, delaying the decision, argued that the problem with extending the license for TVN24 lies in the “ownership situation” of the TVN group. In a statement, the management of the station recalled that in 2015 the National Broadcasting Council accepted the entry of American capital into TVN and stressed that “the company’s ownership structure is in line with the provisions of the Broadcasting Act”. It added that “until applying for the extension of the license for the TVN24 program, the ownership structure of TVN did not raise any doubts.”
From 2016 – under the same ownership conditions – KRRiT previously issued licenses for TVN24 BiS, TTV and TVN International West channels.
