The TVN24 license will expire in five days. On Tuesday, the National Radio and Television Radio will resume deliberations during which it is to deal with the TVN24 license. The application for the license extension was filed over a year and a half ago. – It will certainly be the subject of today’s meeting of the National Broadcasting Council – Teresa Brykczyńska, spokeswoman for the National Broadcasting Council, said on Tuesday.
TVN24 has been waiting for the license extension for over a year and a half. The application was submitted to the National Broadcasting Council in February 2020. The National Broadcasting Council has still not made a decision on this matter. Meanwhile TVN24 obtained a Dutch license for broadcasting.
KRRiT spokeswoman: there is will of the members to end the proceedings
The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday.
– The license for TVN24 will certainly be the subject of today’s meeting of the National Broadcasting Council. There is a will among the members to end this procedure, but if it will work, I cannot predict it – said the spokeswoman for the National Broadcasting Council, Teresa Brykczyńska, in an interview with PAP.
When asked if there would be a vote on the concession, she replied “not out of the question”.
During the meeting last Thursday, the Council did not vote on the concession. Voting on the license was held at earlier meetings of the Council. At that time, they did not bring a decision.
License for TVN24
The National Broadcasting Council claims that the problem with extending the license for TVN24 lies in the “ownership situation” of the TVN group. In a statement, the management of the station recalled that in 2015 the National Broadcasting Council accepted the entry of American capital into TVN and stressed that “the company’s ownership structure is in line with the provisions of the Broadcasting Act”. It added that “until applying for the extension of the license for the TVN24 program, the ownership structure of TVN did not raise any doubts.”
Since 2016 – under the same ownership conditions – KRRiT has already issued licenses for TVN24 BiS, TTV and TVN International West. According to lawyers, the ownership structure of TVN SA meets the requirements of the Act and should not be an obstacle to the granting of a new license.
