The National Broadcasting Council did not vote on the extension of the TVN24 license at its meeting on Thursday, said Teresa Brykczyńska, spokeswoman for the National Broadcasting Council. The application in this matter was submitted over a year and a half ago.

TVN24 has been waiting for the license extension for over a year and a half. The application was submitted to the National Broadcasting Council in February 2020. The National Broadcasting Council has still not made a decision on this matter. Meanwhile TVN24 obtained a Dutch license for broadcasting.

On Thursday, a spokeswoman for the National Broadcasting Council said that the Council did not vote on the concession at its meeting on Thursday. Voting on the license was already held at earlier meetings of the Council. At that time, they did not bring a resolution.

The TVN24 license will expire in 10 days.

License for TVN24

The National Broadcasting Council claims that the problem with extending the license for TVN24 lies in the “ownership situation” of the TVN group. In a statement, the management of the station recalled that in 2015 the National Broadcasting Council accepted the entry of American capital into TVN and stressed that “the company’s ownership structure is in line with the provisions of the Broadcasting Act”. It added that “until applying for the extension of the license for the TVN24 program, the ownership structure of TVN did not raise any doubts.”

Since 2016 – under the same ownership conditions – KRRiT has already issued licenses for TVN24 BiS, TTV and TVN International West. According to lawyers, the ownership structure of TVN SA meets the requirements of the Act and should not be an obstacle to the granting of a new license.
