TVN24 has formally received the decision of the National Broadcasting Council to extend its broadcasting license. We would like to thank everyone who supported us and made the matter famous and important for many Poles.
The National Broadcasting Council formally communicated to TVN24 the decision to extend the broadcasting license. The license is valid from September 27, 2021 to September 26, 2031.
The letter from the National Broadcasting Council stated that “pursuant to Article 35a (2) of the Broadcasting Act, refusal to grant a license for another period is possible only if the broadcaster is subject to any of the circumstances specified in Article 38 (2)). 1 or 2 of the Broadcasting Act “, i.e., inter alia:” a final decision has been issued prohibiting the broadcaster from carrying out economic activity covered by the license; the broadcaster grossly violates the conditions specified in the act or in the license; the activities covered by the license are performed in a manner inconsistent with the law or conditions set out in the license, and the broadcaster, despite the call of the Chairman of the National Council, has not removed the factual or legal status inconsistent with the conditions set out in the license or in the act within the prescribed period “.
“The National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) has not stated that the circumstances indicated above apply to the broadcaster at present (specified in Article 38 (1) or (2) of the Broadcasting Act),” we read in the Council’s decision.
“In connection with the above, on September 22, 2021, the National Broadcasting Council passed a resolution no. 231/2021 authorizing the Chairman of the National Broadcasting Council to grant TVN SA a license for another period for satellite broadcasting of a television program called TVN24,” it was reported.
TVN SA, based in Warsaw, applied to the National Broadcasting Council for a 10-year license in a letter dated February 6, 2020. The license granting process for TVN24 lasted 19 months.
License for TVN24
About the The National Broadcasting Council has extended the license for TVN24 Council spokeswoman Teresa Brykczyńska announced on Wednesday evening. She stated that an absolute majority of votes was obtained in the vote. – Four votes were in favor of granting the concession, one vote against – she said.
The National Broadcasting Council, delaying the decision, argued that the problem with extending the license for TVN24 lies in the “ownership situation” of the TVN group. In a statement, the management of the station recalled that in 2015 the National Broadcasting Council accepted the entry of American capital into TVN and stressed that “the company’s ownership structure is in line with the provisions of the Broadcasting Act”. It added that “until applying for the extension of the license for the TVN24 program, the ownership structure of TVN did not raise any doubts.”
From 2016 – under the same ownership conditions – KRRiT previously issued licenses for TVN24 BiS, TTV and TVN International West channels.
