Car owners will be able to keep their existing number plates when purchasing a used vehicle. This is provided for in the ordinance of the Minister of Infrastructure, which was published in the Journal of Laws. The changes will take effect on Monday, January 31.
It is an ordinance of the minister of infrastructure amending the ordinance on the registration and marking of vehicles and the requirements for registration plates. “An application to keep the current registration number, (…), may be submitted on the application for registration, including its reverse” – we read in the regulations.
The regulation states that “the owner of the vehicle shall present registration plates to the registration authority for legalization in the event of a request to keep the current registration number”.
The new rules mean that drivers will not have to pay for the replacement of license plates. The Ministry of Infrastructure previously indicated that the fee for the most frequently issued car plates is PLN 80.
