Lin Yu-Ting became recognizable all over the world during the Olympic Games in Paris. All because of the controversy related to accusations of being a man. Even before the Olympic start, the head of the IBA boxing federation, linked to the Kremlin, claimed that the Taiwanese woman had undergone gender tests, which showed the presence of XY chromosomes, characteristic of men. For this reason too disqualified it from last year's world championships. However, she was allowed to take part in the Olympics and won the gold medal after the final victory over Julia Szeremeta in the 57-kilogram category.

Since the Games in Paris, Lin Yu-Ting has become a real star in Taiwan, which resulted in advertising contracts. Among others she posed in a special photo session, during which she showed herself in a slightly different, more feminine version. She also took part in a street fashion show, and even appeared in a tampon commercial.

In the end, however, the 28-year-old is a boxer and was supposed to return for the weekend. Everything was supposed to happen during finals World Cup in boxing in Sheffield, which takes place on November 27-30. However, this did not happen. Why? The boxer herself, with the consent of her coach, withdrew from the competition. The reason for this decision was the fact that the World Boxing federation questioned her gender. And it is the WB, which was founded in 2023 and brings together 55 countries (including Taiwan), that is currently competing with the IBA.

World Boxing responds to allegations from Taiwan regarding Lin Yu-Ting

“Lin offered to undergo a full on-site medical examination, but World Boxing did not agree to this. To prevent further harm to Yu-Ting, her coach and Taiwanese officials proactively decided to withdraw from the event. World Boxing's medical committee must establish robust confidentiality procedures to protect medical information provided by Taiwan in the Yu-Ting case” – said the message.

Now World Boxing is addressing the whole matter. According to the Central News Agency, a spokesman for the organization issued a statement in which he said that “World Boxing's current qualification policy does not prevent Lin Yu-Ting from participating in the World Cup. The selection is up to the national federation, and Lin Yu-Ting has not been registered.” It was also noted that the World Boxing medical commission has established a special group whose task is to clarify gender issues and ensure fair competition.

This event was to be Lin Yu-Ting's first since the Paris Games. So when will the boxer return to the ring? This will probably become clear in the near future.
