Firearms, ammunition and gunpowder were found in the beehives of an 80-year-old man by police from Lipsk (Mazowieckie). The senior citizen now faces up to eight years in prison.
The police suspected that the 80-year-old was using the apiary to hide illegal weapons, so they entered his property. – One of the officers, who is passionate about beekeeping, took with him appropriate clothing, which provided him with protection – said the spokeswoman of the District Police Headquarters in Lipsk, Asp. Monika Karasińska.
After entering the farm premises, it turned out that virtually the entire property was filled with ammunition and objects resembling weapons.
Weapons in the walls of the hives
Part of the home arsenal was discovered by police in the walls of empty hives in the apiary. After opening the top cover, the hidden objects were not visible. The police found the weapon only after unscrewing the safety strips.
– Already at the initial stage of the inspection, several firearms, live ammunition and pneumatic weapons were found. In addition, 283 pieces of various types and calibers of ammunition were secured, for which a permit is required – said the policewoman.
80-year-old faces prison
The other dozen or so air weapons bearing visible signs of having been converted into animal slaughter cartridges, revolvers and gas weapons were also secured at the scene. – During the proceedings, the expert will issue an appropriate opinion, on the basis of which it will be known whether their possession was also prohibited or whether it posed a threat – added Asp. Karasińska.
The 80-year-old was placed in police custody and has been charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition without a permit. He faces up to eight years in prison.
