Doctors from the hospital in Klaipeda, Lithuania, found over a kilogram of metal objects, including nails and screws, in the stomach of one of the patients. “We have never seen anything like this,” commented Algirdas Slepavicius, chief surgeon at Klaipeda hospital. He added that the man after surgery is in a stable condition.
The patient reported to the Klaipeda hospital complaining of severe abdominal pain. After taking an x-ray, doctors quickly found the cause of the pain – there were metal objects in the man’s stomach, some measuring up to 10 centimeters in length.
– During the three-hour operation (…) all, even the smallest, foreign bodies were removed from the patient’s stomach – said surgeon Sarunas Dailidenas.
“We’ve never seen anything like it”
There were over a kilo of metal objects in the man’s stomach. The hospital provided local media with a photo of a surgical tray filled with nails and screws. “We have never seen anything like this,” Algirdas Slepavicius, the chief surgeon of the Klaipeda hospital, told the local press. After the surgery, he added, the patient is in a stable condition.
According to medics, the man began to swallow metal objects when he decided to stop drinking alcohol.
