Data from the Central Electoral Commission after counting votes from over half of the electoral commissions indicate that Nauseda won about 47 percent. votes, Szimonyte – about 15 percent support.

– There is no doubt that I will win the first round, we will see how the second one goes. (…)I'm ready to continue the fight and go all the way, President Nauseda told reporters.

– My main goal was to reach the second round. (…) I managed to achieve it – Prime Minister Szimonyte commented on the preliminary election results.

It ran in Sunday's presidential elections eight candidates. Forecasts indicated that if there was a second round, Gitanas Nauseda's rival would be either Prime Minister Ingrida Szimonyte or independent candidate Ignas Vegele.

According to the regulations, if in the presidential elections none of the candidates obtains more than 50 percent. votes at over 50% turnouttwo weeks later – this year it will be May 26 – the second round of voting will be organized.
