There have never been such local elections in Łódź. As many as four women fought for the mayor of this city on April 7. The best turned out to be Hanna Zdanowska, supported by 59.3%. voters. This means that there will be no need for extra time at the ballot box. PiS candidate Agnieszka Wojciechowska van Heukelom won 22.56 percent. votes, the podium is closed by Ewa Szymanowska (Trzecia Droga) with the result of 9.27%.

Hanna Zdanowska was the favorite of the race from the beginning, but the question remained whether the competitors would be able to make it to the second round. In Łódź, uncertainty lasted longer than in other Polish metropolises. This is because there were no orders in this city exit poll results. The consequence of this was the fact that both Hanna Zdanowska and her main competitor Agnieszka Wojciechowska van Heukelom spoke quite cautiously about the results elections and focused more on the collective results of the committees from which they started.

But now everything is clear – there will be no overtime in Łódź. Around 2 p.m National Electoral Commission announced the official results:

The competition in Łódź was unusual in that – unlike other large Polish cities – mainly women applied for a place in the city hall: Hanna Zdanowska from the Civic Coalition, who has held this position since 2010, social activist and current MP from Law and Justice, Agnieszka Wojciechowska van Heukelom. On behalf of the Confederation, Klaudia Domagała, from Częstochowa and living in Łódź for 15 years, fought for the president's seat.

City councilor Małgorzata Niewiadomska-Cudak also initially announced her candidacy, but ultimately resigned for personal reasons. At the beginning of March, Third Way MP Ewa Szymanowska announced her candidacy.

Janusz Wdzięczak and Jan Waliszewski completed the electoral race.

Another term for Hanna Zdanowska

The Mayor of Łódź, Hanna Zdanowska, announced her re-run in the local elections in mid-February. She began her first term in 2010. It was 10 months after the referendum in which the inhabitants of Łódź recalled the then president, Jerzy Kropiwnicki. Hanna Zdanowska was his deputy. In the 2018 local elections, she won in the first round, gaining over 70 percent of the votes. She then defeated the candidate of the United Right, PiS MP Waldemar Buda, for whom nearly 24 percent of voters voted.

When announcing her start, Zdanowska admitted that not all her promises had been fulfilled on time and that is why – as she emphasized – she wanted to finish what she had committed to the residents. – Łódź is changing before our eyes. We see how, together with the inhabitants of Łódź, we managed to achieve the unimaginable. People want to live in Łódź again, they want to visit Łódź again. Maybe we sometimes forget about it in everyday life, but it happened. And I want to finish what I committed to, she said.

Hanna Zdanowska is 64 years old and a native of Łódź. She graduated in environmental engineering from the Faculty of Construction and Architecture of the Lodz University of Technology. After graduating, she built housing estates in Łódź – Retkinia and Radogoszcz. She ran her own company and was the director of the office of the Łódź Chamber of Industry and Commerce. In 2006, she became a councilor in Łódź, and later vice-president of the city. In 2007, she was elected to the Sejm from the PO list, and three years later she became the president of Łódź. In the 2018 local elections, she won in the first round, winning 70.22%. votes. He belongs to the Civic Platform.
