A 22-year-old from Łódź will spend the next three months in custody, suspected of killing a dog and abusing it with particular cruelty. Prosecutors found that the man had been torturing our animal for at least a month. The suspect admitted to using violence, but claimed that he did not cause the dog's death.
The neighbors of the 22-year-old told the police that very disturbing events may be taking place in one of the apartments in Bałuty, Łódź. – The application was received on Wednesday, October 2. It showed that from one of the premises there was loud barking of a dog, screams of a man and sounds of hitting the wall – says Krzysztof Kopania, spokesman for the District Prosecutor's Office in Łódź.
The police who went to the scene found a dead dog in the premises indicated in the report. – There was a visible cut on his head, during the examination and autopsy of the dog, external wounds and very extensive internal injuries were found, which led to his death – says prosecutor Kopania.
Arrested
A 22-year-old man was arrested in the case. Prosecutors determined that he had been tormenting the dog for at least a month.
– The abuse was very drastic. The collected evidence shows that the suspect punched the animal in the head, kicked the dog all over its body, and pulled the leash while walking, prosecutor Kopania said.
On the day the dog died, a young man threw it against a wall several times and then hit it against a desk, which led to the dog's death.
Up to five years in prison
Investigators charged the 22-year-old with abusing an animal with particular cruelty and causing its death. The Polish Penal Code provides for a penalty of up to five years in prison for this crime. In addition, it is obligatory to impose compensation and a ban on owning animals.
– The man questioned as a suspect partially admitted to the accusation. He confirmed that he had used violence. However, he claims that he did not cause the dog's death, prosecutor Kopania said.
Prosecutors asked the court to temporarily arrest the man, and the court agreed to this request.
