A 34-year-old faces a prison sentence of up to 12 years, who first terrorized an employee of one of the gas stations in Łódź with a crowbar, and then broke into a safe there. The police established that the perpetrator was a former station employee.
The crime took place on Friday 27 July. At around 9:30 p.m., the policemen were alerted that a man appeared at a gas station on Warecka Street in Łódź, who threatened the station employee with a crowbar and demanded money from him.
– After taking the profit from the employee, the perpetrator demanded to open the safe. Hearing that the employee did not have the keys to it, he went behind the counter where the safe was hidden and with the help of a crowbar he opened it himself – says Commissioner Marcin Fiedukowicz from the Lodz Police.
The perpetrator stole about three thousand zlotys.
– The policemen working at the scene of the incident carried out a visual inspection, secured a number of traces, which at a later stage allowed to identify the perpetrator of the robbery – adds Fiedukowicz.
The work of uniformed personnel was made much easier by the monitoring recordings installed at the station.
– Officers got to know the image of the suspect thanks to him. It soon turned out that he was a former employee of this station, who a month ago, after just two days of work, was fired for stealing money from the revenue – says the policeman.
Soon after, the man was detained in Polesie in Łódź. During a conversation with officers, he confessed to the robbery.
– He explained it with desperation, because of his many debts. He has had conflicts with the law in the past. Currently, he has heard a charge of robbery, which is punishable by imprisonment of up to 12 years – ends Fiedukowicz.
The 34-year-old was, at the request of the prosecutor’s office, temporarily arrested by a court.
