He will go on his first course on Wednesday evening and at night he will travel the streets of Łódź, helping, among others, people in a homelessness crisis, for whom winter is the most difficult time of the year. Warm meals and tea will be waiting for those in need on the bus.
This will be his first course this fall-winter season. A specially marked bus, which has been regularly departing on the night route through the streets of Łódź since 2002, will run until March 15 next year.
– Throughout the winter, people in the homelessness crisis in Lodz and any other people who need support will be able to eat a hot meal there every day – says Piotr Kowalski, deputy director of the Municipal Social Welfare Center in Lodz. He added that the bus complements the existing year-round support system for people in a homelessness crisis.
– This system includes, among others, hostels and night shelters financed and co-financed by the city of Łódź. The period of autumn and winter is the most difficult time for the homeless of the year, which is why additional support is so important – emphasized Kowalski.
This year’s bus route will lead from the Shelter for Homeless Men at ul. Nowe Sady, Łódź Kaliska Railway Station (from the side of Unii Lubelskiej avenue), pl. Barlickiego (from the side of Żeromskiego Street), Stary Rynek (from the side of Zgierska Street) and the market square at the intersection of ul. Przybyszewskiego and ul. Tatrzańska. He will run this route all night long.
– Everyone in need, who appears on the bus, will receive warm soup and bread, will also be able to drink hot tea – emphasized the deputy director of MOPS.
