A man steps onto a pedestrian crossing and suddenly steps back as a car drives by at high speed. The recording of the incident in Łódź went online, and now the police have taken care of it, which says about a high fine for the passenger car driver. – First of all, there was a failure to give way to a pedestrian who was already on the crossing. For this offence, the driver is liable to a fine of PLN 1,500 and 15 penalty points, a spokeswoman for the Łódź traffic police reports.

The incident took place on July 3 on Zgierska Street. In the recording published by the LDZ Motorized Łódź group, you can see how the man starts to cross the pedestrian crossing, but at some point he backs up, because a silver Skoda drives by at high speed.

Police: There were two offences

We asked the junior aspirant Jadwiga Czyż from the Łódź traffic police for a comment on the incident. The police officer says that two offenses were committed by the driver of the Skoda.

– First, there was a failure to give way to a pedestrian. This driver forced the pedestrian to back up and thus did not yield to him. For this offence, the driver is liable to a PLN 1,500 fine and 15 penalty points. – The second offense is overtaking before a pedestrian crossing. This driver overtook the vehicle that recorded the incident and stopped in front of the crossing. This offense is punishable by a fine of one thousand zlotys and 10 penalty points, says the junior aspirant Jadwiga Czyż.

A note was made of the incident, which will be sent to the Department of Offenses and Crimes in Road Traffic, the Municipal Police Headquarters in Łódź.
