LONDON — London’s police power says that over 1,000 officers are at the moment suspended or on restricted duties because the division steps up efforts to root out unhealthy cops following a scathing report that discovered it was institutionally racist, homophobic and misogynistic.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Stuart Cundy mentioned it’ll take years for the Metropolitan Police Service to eliminate officers who’ve breached requirements or weren’t correctly vetted earlier than they have been employed, with about 60 officers going through disciplinary hearings every month.

“That is going to take one, two or extra years to root out those that are corrupt,” Cundy mentioned in an announcement launched on Tuesday.

The figures have been launched a yr after Commissioner Mark Rowley took over management of the Met, pledging to reform a power that had been rocked by a sequence of scandals, together with the arrest of a serving officer for the kidnap and homicide of a younger lady.

In March, the police power apologized after an unbiased evaluation discovered that the division had misplaced the boldness of the general public due to deep-seated racism, misogyny and homophobia.

The power has about 34,000 officers. The figures present 201 are suspended and about 860 are on restricted duties.
