LOT Polish Airlines has filed a lawsuit in Seattle, United States, against Boeing. The Polish carrier is demanding compensation in the amount of not less than PLN 1 billion – the Polish Press Agency reported, citing an anonymous source. The case is related to design flaws in the 737 MAX airplanes that led to their grounding.
The information was confirmed on Tuesday by the press spokesman of PLL LOT, Krzysztof Moczulski.
As the source told PAP, the lawsuit was preceded by many months of settlement negotiations, which did not lead to solutions that would be satisfactory.
“LOT Polish Airlines has filed a lawsuit in Seattle, Washington against Boeing. The carrier is demanding compensation in the amount of not less than PLN 1 billion (USD 250 million)” – the source told PAP.
Boeing 737 MAXs returned to flights around the world earlier this year after a nearly two-year hiatus to repair defective systems that contributed to disasters in Indonesia in October 2018 and Ethiopia in March 2019. In total 346 people died there.
In March, LOT Polish Airlines joined the 15 carriers that resumed flights with the 737 MAX.
