Police officers from Lubaczów (Podkarpacie) detained a 45-year-old suspected of selling protected stuffed birds online. Among the animals he offered were a snowy owl, a jay and a black grouse.
The 45-year-old was detained last week by criminals from Lubaczów and officers of the National Revenue Administration. This is the result of a report that someone put up for sale prepared specimens of protected birds on one of the websites.
Police: some prepared, some frozen and prepared for preparation
– The police revealed a total of 14 bird specimens under strict species protection, the possession of which is prohibited by law. Some of these birds have already been prepared, and others have been frozen and prepared for preparation – said the aspirant Monika Tomczyszyn-Pachołek, the press officer of the police in Lubaczów.
According to the officers, among the protected specimens were a snowy owl and an owl, a bee-eater, a red kite, a jay, a black grouse, an oriole and others from the hawk and tawny owl families.
According to the policemen, the man “for a long time” was involved in the trade in prepared specimens of protected animals. The 45-year-old was questioned. Offering the sale of a protected animal specimen is punishable by three months to five years in prison.
