The dog spent about 20 minutes in a closed car. The outside air temperature was 28.5 degrees. The animal was unharmed, but its owner may have problems.
The incident occurred on Friday (August 16). The officer on duty at the police headquarters in Lubin received a report before 12:00 about a car parked on Kopernika Street with a small dog inside. The doors and windows in the vehicle were tightly closed.
It was almost 30 degrees outside.
Traffic police officers were dispatched to the scene.
– The officer on duty checked the time the car was parked on the city monitoring. It turned out that the animal had already been in the closed car, in full sun, for about 20 minutes. The outside temperature was 28.5 degrees – Staff Sergeant Sylwia Serafin, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Lubin, reported in a statement.
She went to the store “just for a moment”
When the officers wanted to break the car window to get the dog out, the animal’s owner showed up at the scene.
– The woman explained that she had only gone to the store for a moment and did not expect to be gone for so long. The 40-year-old and her pet were taken to the Lubin police station, where further procedural activities were carried out with her – informed Staff Sergeant Sylwia Serafin.
– Leaving pets in a car at high temperatures is animal cruelty, which, according to the law, is punishable by up to three years in prison – the policewoman reminded.
