The causes of the construction disaster that occurred at Bernardyńska 10 in Lublin are still unknown. Part of the wall of a 19th-century tenement house collapsed there. The building had to be demolished. Meanwhile, construction supervision allowed residents of two neighboring tenement houses to return to their apartments. Specialists concluded that the condition of the buildings does not pose a threat to life or health.
Construction supervision has classified these buildings as habitable, said Paweł Kwiecień, spokesman for the District Construction Supervision Inspectorate in Lublin, on Friday (January 24).
Although the supervision stated that the buildings do not currently pose a threat to human life and health, the technical condition of the facilities should be constantly monitored. Private owners were ordered to perform appropriate expertise in this regard.

A total of 28 people had to be evacuated
A construction disaster occurred a week ago – on the night from Friday to Saturday (January 18), part of one of the walls of a private tenement house at ul. collapsed. Bernardyńska 10 in Lublin. The seven people who were inside evacuated even earlier – when the wall began to crack. 21 people from neighboring buildings also had to leave their apartments for safety reasons. Seven from Bernardyńska 12 and 14 from Bernardyńska 8.
On Friday evening (January 17), before the wall began to crack and then partially collapse, due to a water mains failure, the basement of the building was flooded. Therefore, firefighters cited a water mains failure as the initial cause of the disaster. Whether this actually caused the wall to crack will be determined by an expert opinion commissioned by the construction supervision.
None of the 28 evacuated people expressed willingness to use the temporary place of stay at ul. Północna in Lublin indicated by the city. Some people received material and financial support from the city.
