A woman with a two-year-old child in a pram was passing through a passage in Lublin. She was hit by a delivery truck whose driver was reversing. Nothing happened to the child. The woman was hospitalized in serious condition. The driver was supposed to first tell the rescuers that she fell on the road because she fainted. How it really was, he said when – along with his passenger – he reported to the police. At that time, the child’s father also called them, who saw what had happened on the surveillance video.

Everything happened on Wednesday (February 15) around 1:30 p.m. next to one of the blocks at ul. Szeligowski in Lublin.

– According to the preliminary findings of the police, the driver of the delivery car, while reversing, hit a woman with a two-year-old child on the pedestrian crossing – says Commissioner Kamil Gołębiowski from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Lublin.

He told paramedics that she fell on the roadway because she fainted

As he describes, when the ambulance arrived, the driver told rescuers that the woman had fainted and fell on the road.

– The child was fastened in the stroller. Nothing happened to him. The woman was injured and taken to the hospital in a serious condition, Gołębiowski reports.

The child’s father did not believe it, reviewed the monitoring and notified the police

Jakub Kosikowski, a Lublin doctor, referred to the case on Twitter. He wrote that the woman hit was the nanny of his child and was fighting for her life in the hospital.

– I was not going to comment on this, but changed my mind when I read some comments online that suggested that the babysitter got under the wheels of the vehicle. It’s not true. I saw it with my own eyes on the surveillance video – he tells us.

He adds that he asked the administration of the block to provide the recording, because the injuries suffered by the nanny and the condition of the wheelchair did not agree with his theory that the woman fainted and fell on the road.

“After reviewing the surveillance video, I called the police. It was two hours after the accident.

He described the behavior of the delivery truck driver on Twitter: “He started when they were halfway through the passage, when they entered he stopped.”

They reported to the police. At first they claimed to be witnesses, then they changed their minds

According to Gołębiowski, the child’s father called the police officers when the uniforms were already starting to conduct activities.

– Some time after the incident, two men reported to the police station, who initially stated that they had witnessed a woman fall over on the crossing. Ultimately, however, during a conversation with the policemen, they said that one of them was the driver and the other a passenger, and that there had been a hit-and-run, the policeman reports.

One was sober, the other had a “small amount of alcohol” in his system

One of the men is 29 and the other is 30. They were breathalysed. The man who said he was driving was sober. However, the one who stated that he was a passenger had a small amount of alcohol in his system. We took blood from both of them for testing to determine their psychophysical state during the accident – emphasizes Gołębiowski.

The men were detained. So far, none of them have been charged. – We’re taking action. For causing an accident that results in serious bodily harm, the penalty is up to eight years in prison, says a police officer.
