22-year-old Eryk W. was charged with causing grievous bodily harm. He allegedly stabbed a 23-year-old man during an argument in one of the apartments in Lublin. The young man died, his body was found in a bag.

As prosecutor Agnieszka Kępka, spokeswoman of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Lublin, said in an interview with tvn24.pl, two men were detained in the case. One of them was questioned as a witness, the other – Eryk W. – as a suspect. – The man was charged with stabbing the injured party three times in the subclavicular area and lower abdomen on January 19, which caused serious bodily harm, i.e. an act under Article 156, paragraph 1, point 2, the prosecutor said.

Art. 156. [Ciężki uszczerbek na zdrowiu]§ 1. Whoever causes serious damage to health in the form of: 1) depriving a person of sight, hearing, speech, or the ability to reproduce, 2) other serious disability, a serious incurable or long-term disease, a disease that actually threatens life, a permanent mental illness, total or significant permanent incapacity to work in a profession or permanent, significant disfigurement or deformation of the body, 3) cutting out, infibulation or other permanent and significant mutilation of the female sexual organ, shall be subject to the penalty of imprisonment from 3 to 20 years. § 2. If the perpetrator acts unintentionally, he shall be subject to the penalty of imprisonment freedom for up to 3 years. § 3. If the act specified in § 1 results in the death of a person, the perpetrator shall be subject to the penalty of deprivation of liberty for a period of not less than 5 years or the penalty of deprivation of liberty for life.

According to prosecutor Kępka, the 22-year-old did not plead guilty to the charge and refused to provide explanations. By court decision, he was arrested for three months.

Causing serious bodily harm is punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Additional tests needed

An autopsy of the deceased 23-year-old was held on Monday. – The preliminary expert opinion shows that the wounds were not fatal – the spokeswoman of the Lublin district prosecutor’s office told us.

The prosecutor’s office has ordered additional tests and is waiting for a written expert opinion. – Only after receiving this opinion will we know what the mechanism of death of the deceased man was – said Kępka.

The prosecutor’s office does not rule out that the charges against Eryk W. will be changed.

Body with stab wounds in the apartment

According to the police, the man’s body was found on Saturday, January 20 in one of the apartments in the Bronowice housing estate in Lublin.

“Already preliminary activities indicated that a crime had probably occurred. The man had stab wounds,” said Superintendent Kamil Gołębiowski. In an interview with tvn24.pl he informed that the police are currently not providing any information about the circumstances of finding the body.

The police detained a 23-year-old from Chełm, who is suspected of committing the crime. The man was taken into custody. “According to preliminary findings, the stabbing occurred during an argument,” Gołębiowski said.

The police and prosecutor’s office do not provide detailed information about the circumstances of the incident.
