A water supply failure was probably the cause of the cracking and subsequent collapse of part of the wall of the building at BernardyĆska Street in the center of Lublin. Construction supervision will assess whether the tenement house is suitable for further use. 14 people were evacuated.
The details were announced by the spokesman of the Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Lublin, senior captain. Andrzej SzacoĆ. On the night from Friday to Saturday, firefighters received a report about a crack in the wall in a tenement house at ul. BernardyĆska 10.
– Construction supervision issued a ban on the use of the facility at night. For safety, we have disconnected all utilities: gas, electricity and water. Before our arrival, seven people evacuated from the building,” the spokesman said.
The wall and ceiling of the basement collapsed
After hours At 2 a.m., part of the external wall and the ceiling above the basement collapsed. No one was hurt. For safety reasons, another seven people were evacuated from part of the neighboring tenement house at ul. BernardyĆska 12. Everyone found shelter with their loved ones. Firefighters cut off the gas supply to part of the area.
– The probable cause of the incident could have been a water supply failure. Earlier, there was a water leak from the installation in the basement of this building – added the spokesman.
On Saturday, construction supervision workers will assess the degree of damage to the building and whether it is suitable for further use.
Street BernardyĆska is closed to traffic in the area of ââthe damaged tenement house.
