Lublin. Rubble of a demolished tenement house. Residents of neighboring houses are waiting for an expert opinion

Food, water, cleaning products, duvets, pillows, baby diapers, pet food – such as: MOPR donated products to three families who lost the roof over their heads after the wall collapsed and then the demolition of the tenement house at BernardyƄska 10 in Lublin. One of the families who had to leave neighboring buildings also received help. For now, it is not known whether I will be able to return to my apartments. Expert opinion will answer this. The deadline for its implementation is February 10.

The seven people who were inside still evacuated when the wall began to crack. 21 people from neighboring buildings also had to leave their apartments for safety reasons. Seven from BernardyƄska 12 and 14 from BernardyƄska 8.

They live with their relatives, four families received financial assistance

The city hall declared that it would provide all these people with places to stay temporarily. So far, none of the families have applied for it. All of them found shelter with their loved ones. These are three families (consisting of eight people) from the tenement house at 10 BernardyƄska Street and seven families from “number eight” and “number twelve”.

– Three families out of ten received material assistance from us. We provided, among others: food, water, cleaning products, duvets, pillows, baby diapers, animal food – says Anna Pawlak, spokeswoman for the Municipal Family Support Center in Lublin.

One family from “number eight” also received the same help. The remaining families have not asked MOPR for support yet.

The center also paid targeted benefits to the families of the “ten” tenement house (families from the other two tenement houses are not entitled to receive such benefits – editor's note). The city authorities also declared that they would provide all people in the three buildings with psychological assistance.

– So far, none of the families have asked for such help – says Anna Pawlak.

They still don't know if they will be able to return to their apartments

Residents of numbers eight and twelve are still waiting for a decision on whether safety reasons will allow them to return to their apartments.

– We have issued an order to carry out an expert opinion and carry out structural inspections of these two buildings. Only after the results are positive will it be possible for residents to return to their apartments, says PaweƂ KwiecieƄ, spokesman for the District Construction Supervision Inspectorate in Lublin.

They are investigating the causes of the disaster

Expertise and inspections are to be commissioned by the owners or managers of tenement houses. The deadline for their implementation is February 10. The construction supervision is waiting for the results of the expert opinion it commissioned regarding the building that was demolished. The point is to determine the causes of the disaster.

– Experts worked on site. Just like the expert appointed by the prosecutor's office. The activities are in progress, emphasizes PaweƂ KwiecieƄ.

The prosecutor's investigation is ongoing

As Agnieszka Kępka, spokeswoman for the District Prosecutor's Office in Lublin, informed on Monday (January 20), the Lublin-PóƂnoc District Prosecutor's Office has initiated an investigation into the risk of a construction disaster.

– We will investigate the causes of this disaster and whether there was any human negligence that could have influenced it – said the prosecutor.

The investigation is conducted in the case, not against anyone. The crime of causing a risk of a construction disaster is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
