Hackers attacked one of the universities in Lublin. IT systems are down and classes have been cancelled. The incident was confirmed by the school and published a statement on its website. We received the first information about this event on Kontakt24.

We are talking about the University of Economics and Innovation in Lublin. According to local media, the problems were supposed to appear a few days ago. The university’s website is down. Students alarm that the same applies to e-mail, it is also impossible to contact the virtual dean’s office. There is also a problem with telephone contact. Therefore, they do not have access to the index, the dean’s office, credits and information, classes are canceled, and the results of exams are unknown, the lublin112.pl portal reported.

Paralysis of the university and canceled classes after a hacker attack

On the university’s website there is a message in which the university authorities confirm that the university’s ICT systems were attacked by a hacker group, which caused their failure and unavailability. “Immediately after the incident was identified, work began to launch key functionalities and systems, including the e-learning platform and the virtual dean’s office” – we read in the release.

The university authorities also announced that the IT Center Team, supported by external specialists, is working to restore the normal functioning of the university. For this reason, the upcoming stationary and online classes scheduled for February 18-19 have been cancelled.

“Possibility of personal data breach”

The university authorities also informed that in connection with the attack on the university’s IT infrastructure, there were “possibilities of personal data breach”.

“As a result of the cyberattack on the IT infrastructure, unauthorized persons could have access to your personal data. Immediately after the incident was discovered, the ICT systems were secured and steps were taken to recover key functionalities and systems” – the release said.

“At the moment, according to our knowledge, there is no evidence that the personal data of Students and Employees have been stolen. However, in accordance with applicable law, the attack was reported to the Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime of the Police from the Faculty in Lublin and the Office for Personal Data Protection” the university authorities said.
