Meeting the needs of students and other residents of the city – this is, as the representatives of the Catholic University of Lublin say, the reason for introducing a mass in Ukrainian in the academic church. The first took place on Sunday. It was chaired by the Bishop of Kiev and Żytomierz, Witalij Krywycki.
On Sunday (November 28), at the academic church of the Catholic University of Lublin, it was possible to attend the first mass in Ukrainian.
“It is about the mass in the Western – Latin rite, which will be celebrated every Sunday of the academic year at 9.30 am. It is an unquestionable sensation in Lublin” – we read on the website of KUL.
There are many people who speak Ukrainian in Lublin
– The Code of Canon Law obliges the bishop and pastor to care for all people, especially for other rites and other nationalities. In Lublin, there are many people who speak Ukrainian, who are followers of the Latin rite in the Church – explains the decision of the KUL Vice-Rector for Mission and Administration, Fr. prof. Mirosław Sitarz.
Witalij Krywycki, the bishop of Kiev and Żytomierz, presided over the service.
For several years now, masses have also been celebrated in English
– Mass in Ukrainian at the KUL academic church is an opportunity for many people who consider it to be their “language of the heart” not only to hear and understand well what God and the Church are saying to them, but also to meet them and integrate with those who feel the same. The university meets the needs of students and other city residents for whom the Ukrainian language is their mother tongue, explains the press spokesman of the Catholic University of Lublin, Prof. Michał Wyrostkiewicz.
It is worth adding that for several years now, masses in English have been celebrated at the KUL academic church. You can participate in them every Sunday at 17.
