Police officers from Lubliniec (Silesian Voivodeship), in cooperation with CBZC from Warsaw, detained a man who started a collection online, pretending that he had lost his belongings during the flood. The 33-year-old has already been charged with fraud.
Police officers from the Warsaw Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime came across an online fundraiser by one of the residents of Lubliniec.
“Taking into account the fact that the area of the city of Lubliniec did not suffer due to the flood that hit the Silesian Voivodeship, the information included in the text of the collection was inconsistent with the actual situation,” the police say.
A 33-year-old man was arrested
On Wednesday, September 25, thanks to the cooperation of CBZC and Lubliniec police officers, a 33-year-old resident of Lubliniec was detained. The man was charged with attempted fraud. Now he faces up to 8 years in prison.
The prosecutor from the District Prosecutor's Office in Lubliniec applied a preventive measure to the 33-year-old in the form of police supervision.
