The District Prosecutor’s Office in Lublin (Lubelskie Voivodeship) charged a 38-year-old priest with a mobile phone recording a man in a toilet in a shopping mall. Artur S. is facing up to five years in prison.

In February this year, the priest went to one of the Lublin shopping malls. In the men’s restroom, he allegedly recorded a man with a mobile phone.

Prosecutor Magdalena Naczas from the District Prosecutor’s Office in Lublin said in an interview with tvn24.pl that on June 30, the prosecutor’s office filed an indictment in this case with the court. – The alleged act is to record the image of a naked person without her consent. There is one victim in this case. Father Artur S. is facing up to 5 years of imprisonment – explains prosecutor Magdalena Naczas.

“In the men’s restroom, he tried to record the image of a naked man, using a trick to do so by recording with a mobile phone from a neighboring toilet cabin, but he did not achieve the intended goal due to the victim’s reaction” – it was written in the indictment.

The next day after the arrest, the clergyman was released home. A property surety in the amount of PLN 600 was applied to him.

The bishop removed the priest from work

According to PAP, the spokesman for the Siedlce curia, Fr. Jacek Świątek, by the decision of the bishop of Siedlce, the priest was removed from all pastoral work and directed to isolation until the end of the investigation and possible trial.

At the same time, he explained that the curia had not previously received any signals about any behavior of this priest, deviating from “accepted norms and rules of interpersonal and social relations”.

The first hearing date was set for September 13.
