The wolf was covered in branches and had gunshot wounds. The forest guard found him in the forest near Łuków (Lubelskie Voivodeship). The police are looking for the perpetrator. The deputy forester says that this is not the only example of poaching in the local forests.

– The wolf was found by the forest guard on Friday, April 7. It was lying covered with branches – says Kazimierz Żmuda, deputy forest inspector of the Łuków Forestry Inspectorate.

The animal had gunshot wounds. The police were notified.

– Our preliminary findings show that the wolf was shot. We are currently conducting preparatory proceedings – says staff assistant Marcin Józwik from the District Police Headquarters in Łuków.

Żmuda points out that cases of poaching, unfortunately, do occur in the forestry inspectorate, and it is not only about wolves, but also elk or deer.

– The last time a dead wolf was found in our area, but closer to the town of Jeleniec, in 2021. As far as I can remember, the culprit has not been identified.
