The General Directorate for Environmental Protection has agreed to shoot two wolves in the Lutowiska commune in Podkarpacie. It is important until the end of the year. It was not the first consent of the wolf this year.
The head of the Lutowiska Janusz Krupa in mid -January this year applied to the General Directorate for Environmental Protection (GDOĆ) with a request to shoot two wolves “in order to eliminate a legitimate threat to the safety of people living or staying in Lutowiska and limiting damage to property.” He sent another document a month ago.
Predators did not respond to scoring
– We gave GDOĆ extensive documentation with estimated losses and evidence in the form of photography. Earlier, the inhabitants reported to us that wolves were bitten by dogs, sheep and even fallow deer bred near the house. There were a lot of these cases. Predators were also seen during the day at the stadium near the school and the dairy – said Janusz Krupa, head of Lutowiska. – Residents began to fear about their safety, because predators did not respond to scoring. Nothing was effective. Breeders said that wolves bit sheep before their eyes – he added.
“All necessary premises have been met in total”
As reported by the spokeswoman for the General Directorate for Environmental Protection Joanna NiedĆșwiecka, the Lutowiska commune received permission to shoot because “all necessary premises were met in total.”
– First, shooting to two individuals does not threaten the behavior of the proper protection of wildly occurring populations of protected animal species. It is estimated that at the end of 2023 there were 5,046 wolves in Poland, of which 1,324 in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship – said spokeswoman GDOĆ. She added that in the report transferred by Poland to the European Commission in 2019, the state of behavior of the wolf in the Alpine Biogeographic Region was described as appropriate.
Another argument for GDOĆ was that the scolding of wolves so far in Lutowiska turned out to be ineffective. Residents tried to scare away animals with firecrackers, bang pistols, knocker, they could also use pneumatic weapons with bullets energy below 17J.
A spokeswoman GDOĆ also pointed to damage to property and issues related to improving the safety of residents. – In the Lutowiska commune in the last 12 months there were 13 attacks on pets, as a result of which wolves bit three cattle, seven sheep pieces and five animals. The amount of compensation paid in this respect to the victims amounted to PLN 47,270.50. These damage took place in the towns of Lutowiska, Chmiel and Smolnik – said Joanna NiedĆșwiecka.
Permission valid until the end of the year
The GDOĆ decision includes accurate indications regarding the selection of wolves to shoot and procedures related to the process of eliminating predators. Permission for the Lutowiska commune is important until the end of 2025.
From the beginning of the year, GDOĆ has issued four consent to the WilkĂłw Hissing in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship. Applications for permission were submitted by the following municipalities: Jawornik Polski, Dubiecko, KomaĆcza, Cisna, HyĆŒne, Fredropol, DynĂłw, and KaĆczuga.
