The Prime Minister of Luxembourg was accused of plagiarizing his master’s thesis at the University of Nancy in France. Xavier Bettel, in reaction to the criticism, said on Wednesday that “he should have done differently”, reported the AFP agency and the Luxembourg daily “L’Essentiel”.
According to the reportage service of Luxembourg journalists reporter.lu, “three quarters” of the diploma work of Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel from 1999 contain borrowings from other publications, without appropriate footnotes. – Today I admit that I could, and maybe should have done differently – the head of the Grand Duchy of government referred to the allegations.

Xavier Bettel, 48, Prime Minister of Luxembourg since 2013, said he leaves it to the Lorraine University of Nancy to judge whether the thesis met the criteria at the time of its presentation more than 20 years ago. He added that he would accept any decision of the university authorities.
The case hit the front pages of most Luxembourg newspapers on Wednesday, adds AFP. For a similar reason, the Federal Minister for Family Affairs Franziska Giffey resigned in May in neighboring Germany, recalls the French agency. Doubts concerned her doctoral dissertation.
