Maciej Berek will be one of the ministers without portfolio in Donald Tusk’s government, responsible for the legislative process. This will not be a debut on government benches for the legal advisor and academic teacher. In the past, Berek was the president of the Government Legislation Center, and also worked in a number of institutions, including the Supreme Audit Office and the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights.

Maciej Berek will be one of the members of the new government and will be responsible for the legislative process. – An extremely experienced person, although still young. Maciej Berek is a legal advisor and academic teacher, doctor of law. He was born on May 12, 1972 in Gdańsk. He graduated from the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Gdańsk, European Integration Studies conducted by the National School of Public Administration in Warsaw and Ecole Nationale d’Administration in Paris. He defended his doctoral dissertation at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw. Currently, he works at the Department of Constitutional Law at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw.

From 1997 to 2003 he worked in the Senate Chancellery. Initially as a legislator, then as deputy director of the Legal and Organizational Office. In his legislative work, he dealt with, among others, the administrative reform of Poland and the introduction of direct elections mayors and presidents of cities, the launch of a health insurance system and the regulations of the Senate.

Since 2004, Berek has worked at the Supreme Audit Office, where he served as a legal advisor in the Department of Legal and Audit Jurisprudence, and after completing his auditor training, he served as deputy director of this department. In 2007, he was appointed President of the Government Legislation Center in the first government of Donald Tusk. He remained in office also in Tusk’s second government and the government Ewa Kopacz.

In 2008, he took up the position of Secretary of the Council of Ministers. In the years 2009-2017, he was a member of the Main Adjudicating Committee in Cases of Violation of Public Finance Discipline. From 2020, he headed the Senate Information Center. After leaving the Upper House of Parliament in 2021, he became director general at the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights, and then chief coordinator for the strategic development of the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights. He held this position until December 10, 2023.
