A symbolic end to PiS impunity. The law must be enforced, court decisions must be respected, it cannot be that people feel that politicians are above the law – commented MP Dariusz Joński (KO) on the detention of Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik. According to Waldemar Buda from PiS, the arrest should not have happened. – I think this situation will lead to many legal and political consequences – he commented.

After 7:40 p.m., the conversation was interrupted to say that the information about the detention of Kamiński and Wąsik had been confirmed. – According to our information, both were arrested Maciej Wąsik, as well as Mariusz Kamiński – said Robert Zieliński from tvn24.pl. – Both former Law and Justice MPs were detained by police officers on the premises of the Presidential Palace – added the journalist.
Kamiński and Wąsik arrested. First comments
– Symbolic end of PiS impunity. The law must be enforced, court decisions must be respected, and people cannot believe that politicians are above the law. Eventually, the law will also apply to PiS politicians. (…) We expect the police to be effective and we cannot imagine them hiding – said Dariusz Joński (KO).
– You have to respect people who have principles. If we are talking about the fact that there could be another pardon and they would be free, but neither they want it, the president doesn’t do it, I respect them for that, we have to fight for the principles. There was a pardon, there should not be such a situation, especially since Supreme Court overturned the decision of Marshal Hołownia. It happened differently and I think this situation will lead to many legal and political consequences – commented Waldemar Buda from PiS.
Wąsik and Kamiński in the Presidential Palace
Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik, sentenced to prison by a final verdict, took part on Tuesday in the ceremony of appointing new advisors Andrzej Duda in the Presidential Palace. The photos were published by the Chancellery of the President. On that day, the police received orders to bring PiS politicians to prison. The condemned Wąsik and Kamiński stayed in the Presidential Palace until the evening.
Joński commented on the president’s decision. – It seems to me that he (the president – ed.) is not able to become independent and is constantly implementing all these decisions from Nowogrodzka Street, so I do not know what other ideas Jarosław Kaczyński will come up with and what Andrzej Duda will implement. The president has never opened the door to criminals, he said.
– People expected changes, impunity is ending, I am glad that this is the past – added the KO politician.
Hołownia changes the date of the Sejm meeting. Ionian: a necessary decision so that the Polish parliament can face it
The second session of the Sejm was to be held on January 10, but Marshal Szymon Hołownia announced that the session would be postponed. postponed to next week. As he explained, “of course there is one reason for this postponement.” – What is happening this week, the situation of a deep constitutional crisis, the party dispute that has flared up around it, does not guarantee that this hot week, full of various decisions (the Sejm – ed.), will proceed peacefully – he explained Hołownia.
Dariusz Joński assessed that it was a “necessary decision so that the Polish parliament could show its face.” – The Polish parliament must get out of this mess that Kaczyński has caused. In a moment, there will be photos in the world of criminals entering the Presidential Palace and telling the police: “You won’t do anything to us,” said Dariusz Joński.
What were Wąsik and Kamiński convicted of?
In 2007, the CBA, headed by Mariusz Kamiński (Maciej Wąsik was his deputy), organized a provocation that was intended to attack the then Minister of Agriculture, Andrzej Lepper. The suspected agents of the Bureau were to offer officials a bribe of several million zlotys for the de-agriculture of a plot of land in Masuria. Due to the leak, no money was transferred and the CBA operation ended in failure. As a result, Lepper was dismissed by Jarosław Kaczyński (he was prime minister at that time). The political earthquake led to the collapse of the PiS-Samoobrona-LPR coalition and to premature electionsas a result of which the PO-PSL coalition took power.
Judge Anna Bator-Ciesielska, who announced in December 2023 the final judgment in the case of Kamiński and Wąsik, said that their actions years ago, when they headed the CBA, “were far from” the standard of operation of law enforcement agencies within the framework of operational control and provocation. – The activities undertaken by the defendants described in the judgment were not only illegal (…) They were not activities aimed at detecting crimes, but rather creating the crime – said the judge.
