The second half of 2024 is definitely better for Magda Linette (40th WTA) than the first. The Polish tennis player won the WTA 250 tournament in Prague, and recently played in the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 in Wuhan, where she lost to Coco Gauff (3rd WTA) 0:6, 4:6. Recently, Linette played in the WTA 500 tournament in Ningbo, where she was eliminated in the first round after a 2:6, 4:6 defeat against Katerina Siniakova (48th WTA).
Magda Linette talks honestly about playing in many tournaments and the possible end of her career
Magda Linette is one of the most active Polish tennis players who takes part in many tournaments, often in singles and doubles. In an interview for the portal xyz.pl she was asked whether it could be “workaholism”.
– I was wondering about that. And I think that our profession, and especially the specific nature of the season, favors this. Tournaments are held almost every week, from early January to mid-November. And we have a ranking, sometimes we advance, sometimes we fall. And the ranking determines whether we will be seeded in a given tournament. You have to arrange it in such a way that you also think about money. What to give up, where to play despite the injury, because the money is good and the stakes are lower… It's like a rat race – she said.
The interview also included a question about the end of his career. – Every year I answer: in three years – said Linette, who will turn 33 in February. Then the tennis player talked about the issue of earnings in tennis and “setting up” after her career.
– My situation is not good enough to say that. Tennis players are in a specific situation because everyone theoretically sees their earnings. Theoretically, because the amounts we find on the Internet do not include taxes, team maintenance costs, injury treatment costs, flights, accommodation, etc. Tax rates vary depending on the country in which we play, she explained. She added that costs are only increasing due to, among others, maintaining the team.
– Financial matters in general are a difficult topic. We have been playing tennis all our lives, and we often have no idea about finances. We don't have a place where you can find answers to all your questions, what to invest in, etc. – she added.
The tennis player is waiting for the Australian Open 2025
Linette also admitted that she still believes in reaching the final of a Grand Slam tournament. – Otherwise I wouldn't go out on the court. I'm looking forward to the Australian Open in January, I feel like we're back on the right track, I've beaten some strong rivals recently, I really liked the way I played, she concluded. It was on the courts in Melbourne that Linette had her best performance when she played in the 2023 semi-finals.
Fans will definitely be able to watch Magda Linette on the court during the Billie Jean King Cup finals, which will be played on November 13-20 in Malaga.
