Health education should be mandatory because our children deserve access to knowledge – said Magdalena Biejat, deputy speaker of the Senate and candidate of the New Left in the presidential elections, in “Rozmowa Piaseckiego” on TVN24. – I consider both the position of Deputy Prime Minister (Władysław) Kosiniak-Kamysz and the position of the Prime Minister to be a grave mistake – she said.
According to the announcements of the Ministry of Education, a new subject, health education, was to be introduced as compulsory from the 2025/2026 school year, replacing family life education. However, on Tuesday, the Prime Minister Donald Tusk admitted that he is “a supporter of focusing on voluntariness rather than coercion in such a situation.” On Sunday, the deputy prime minister and president PSL Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced that health education will not be a compulsory subject. – It will be the parents' decision. (…) Education of young people about health is necessary, but it cannot be dipped in any ideological sauce – he said.
The New Left's presidential candidate, Magdalena Biejat, said on Thursday in “Rozmowa Piaseckiego” that “health education should be mandatory because our children deserve access to knowledge.”
– I recommend everyone to read the ordinance, which is not written in very complicated language – she said. She added that there are issues such as digital hygiene, taking care of your safety online, education about mental health, and how to take care of a healthy diet.
– There will also be sex education there – she added. In her opinion, introducing optional health education will result in unequal access to knowledge.
– I consider the position of Deputy Prime Minister (Władysław) Kosiniak-Kamysz and the position of the Prime Minister to be a grave mistake – said Biejat. – This is harmful to our children, to our public debate – she said.
