He did not have a driver’s license, but had a blood alcohol content of over two times the legal limit and crashed into a fence with a previously stolen car. A 31-year-old resident of the Sieradz poviat (Łódź Voivodeship), in order to avoid punishment, hid from the policemen in a child’s bed. He faces up to five years in prison.

The incident took place on April 14 in Majaczewice near Złoczew. The duty officer of the Sieradz police received a report about the theft of an Opel left on the side of the road, near the forest complex. The owner of the vehicle left the keys in the ignition and was walking in the woods. As he reported, there were also money and a chain saw in the car, the total value of which he estimated at almost PLN 3,500.

According to the police, the perpetrator did not leave the place of the theft far away, a few hundred meters away, the officers found the stolen Opel, which crashed into a roadside fence. There was no one in the car. Uniforms determined that the perpetrator of the theft is probably a 31-year-old resident of the Sieradz district, known for his previous conflicts with the law. – Shortly after the incident, officers found a man hidden in a baby cot in the attic of his home. In an interview with the police, he confessed to the theft. As a result of the search of the flat, the police found the stolen money and a chainsaw in the nearby forest. At the time of arrest, the 31-year-old had more than two per mille of alcohol in his body, informed Asp. staff Agnieszka Kulawiecka from the police in Sieradz.

As it turned out, the man did not have a driving license. The 31-year-old was taken to a police cell. After sobering up, he was charged with theft and driving while intoxicated. He is facing up to five years in prison and a high fine, the press officer of the Sieradz police said.
