In Majorca, the main island of the Spanish Balearic Islands, clashes of foreign tourists with the police and gendarmerie took place on Sunday, local media reported on Monday. Most of the resisting vacationers were drunk. They were mainly citizens of Great Britain and France.
According to the daily “Diario de Mallorca”, the riots took place mainly in the resort of Megaluf, where numerous tourists resisted Spanish officials who tried to interrupt illegally organized games. According to an announcement from the local police, the services intervened because aggressive tourists, mainly young people, disregarded anti-epidemic regulations. Additionally, they destroyed public property and cars parked in the streets.
In the Balearic Islands it is forbidden to organize meetings in public spaces between 1.00 am and 6.00 am. It is also forbidden to sell alcohol during this time.

As established by the daily “La Vanguardia”, usually police interventions consisted in the liquidation of illegal events organized mainly around the beach in Megaluf, as well as several other places in the Calvia commune there.
Local police confirmed that they used force to remove drunk and aggressive tourists from public places. The action was carried out with the support of gendarmerie units. According to the Balearic police, the tourists who resisted were mainly citizens of Great Britain and France.
Similar police interventions had also taken place earlier. At the end of July, Spanish police chased away those gathered in the city of Palma, Mallorca.
