A 35-year-old Franciscan from Siedlce (Masovian Voivodeship) is dead. He was fatally beaten at night in the park. He died in the hospital. He has been a priest for nine years, and has been in the convent for 16 years.

A 35-year-old monk was beaten to death on November 11 in the evening. According to local media, the Franciscan was found in a city park. He died after 3 am in the hospital.

According to niedziela.pl, the monk was to go to the park for a walk, from which he did not return to the monastery. His absence was noticed by the confreres only on Friday. According to the local media, the beaten 35-year-old was spotted in the park by a passerby who called the emergency services.

The police do not comment on this matter and do not provide any information, refer them to the prosecutor’s office. We have not been able to contact the Siedlce prosecutor’s office, which is investigating the case, until the publication.

According to the KAI agency, Fr Maksymilian Adam Świerżewski from the Province of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual (Franciscans) in Warsaw came from the parish of Of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Częstochowa in Szumów, in the deanery of Zambrów in the diocese of Łomża. “He departed to the Lord at the age of 35, in the age of 16 as a religious, and in the age of 9 as a priest,” we read in the release. Franciscan Fathers are asking for prayers for their deceased brother – adds KAI.

“Father Maksymilian was a zealous and well-liked priest. In honor of the Holy Founder of Niepokalanów, he took the monastic name of Maksymilian. He wanted to imitate him” – reports the Catholic Information Agency.

“Father Maksymilian – we thank God for your work and service. Rest in peace” – wrote Grzegorz Suchodolski, Auxiliary Bishop of Siedlce Diocese in social media.

Residents’ accounts

– I saw the pool of blood only, the policeman and the fire department (…) There was no corpse, only a pool of blood. I walk several times a day. When I was walking, it was already cleaned up – says TVN24, one of the inhabitants of Siedlce.


– I go here every evening for a walk with my dog. I have lived here for so many years and there has never been anything like this here – adds another resident of the city.
