A 40-year-old Ukrainian citizen tried to smuggle EUR 82,000 across the Polish-Ukrainian border. The cash was in the man's luggage. Tax proceedings were initiated against him.

The smuggling was foiled by officers of the National Tax Administration during vehicle inspections in Malhowice, where a check-in place is designated for trucks returning from Ukraine without load.

“The passenger of the vehicle, a 40-year-old citizen of Ukraine, was carrying cash in his luggage. Penal fiscal proceedings were initiated against the traveler who did not submit the mandatory declaration of the transport of currency,” said the spokeswoman of the Tax Administration Chamber in Rzeszów. The transport of money must be reported

The spokeswoman reminded that persons crossing the state border are obliged to report in writing the import into the country and export abroad of cash if its value exceeds PLN 10,000. euro.

Travelers crossing internal borders with other Schengen Member States are excluded from this obligation.

Failure to fulfill this obligation or providing false data in the declaration is subject to a fine.
