According to the organizers, up to half a million people – including many people who came from all over Poland – marched through the streets of Warsaw on June 4 in protest against the current authorities. – We can make a declaration that we will not run out of strength, determination or consistency to win these elections – said KO MP Dariusz Joński. – It was a crowd of people, including those who once voted for PiS, saying they want change. If they want a change, this change is possible in the fall – noted the head of the Left club, Krzysztof Gawkowski.

Members of the Civic Coalition, Katarzyna Lubnauer and Dariusz Joński, summed up the June 4 march at the Monday conference in Łódź, which crowded the streets of Warsaw on Sunday. Organizers estimated that half a million people took part in the march in the capital.

Joński: there is great hope for change

Dariusz Joński noted that during the march “we saw optimism and hope”. – And this hope is extremely important, because it is impossible to win elections without hope. Yesterday we succeeded, people believed that we are able to win against this system of Kaczyński’s regime and we will do it with a smile on our lips – he said.

He noted that “PiS has no other idea than to say that there were few people, that the streets were empty.” – When I got to Plac Zamkowy, I got a text message that people had not yet left the square at Rozdrożu, and it was three kilometers away. Three kilometers of people with a white and red flag in their hands went for freedom, went for victory – he said.

– We can make a declaration that we will not lack strength, determination or consistency to win these elections. We want to win, yesterday people showed that they want to win.

Joński admitted that “joyful processions and joy on the lips in such great numbers” he had last seen in 2004, “when we were entering the European Union”. – Then something changed, something happened, yesterday too. This something is a huge hope for change and winning. We will win, he assured.

Lubnauer: The size of the march gives everyone another push to fight for victory

Katarzyna Lubnauer admitted that the turnout of the march surprised even its organizers. – It was an exceptionally calm, serene march. There were no excesses, no dangerous situations. It was a march where whole families enjoyed themselves, she said. – This shows that Poles wanted to show that they are together – she noted.

– The size of the march gives everyone another boost to fight for victory. We are already convinced that if there are half a million people behind us in Warsaw and millions more who either watched the march on TV or attended smaller meetings in other cities, it means one thing that we will win – she said.

– This march is a symbol of the road to victory. We are at the beginning of the end of PiS power, said the MP from the Civic Coalition.

Budka: this positive force will not be stopped by anyone

Chairman of the parliamentary club of the Civic Coalition Boris Budka in turn, he referred to comments from politicians of the ruling party. – The ministers of the PiS government say that the participants could not sing the anthem, this is spitting to all those who showed that they have Poland in their hearts. If such arguments are raised, it proves that there are no substantive arguments. They can lie about the numbers, about the participants, but I am convinced that this positive force will not be stopped by anyone, he told journalists in the Sejm.

In his opinion, the march showed a “positive dimension of patriotism”. “I think that’s what hurts them the most,” he said.

Motyka: The authorities are not interested in Poles. Poles see it, they expressed it in Warsaw

Spokesman PSL Miłosz Motyka commented in the Sejm that “the energy came from talks with Poles”. – We in Warsaw, and other towns in Poland, talk to our compatriots who say that they are simply fed up and expect this activity from us, so we will definitely have enough energy – he assured.

– We will devote time, energy and all means to bring Poland back to normality. We will do everything to make that happen. This is also how we arrange the elections to mobilize the largest group of Poles to vote for democratic parties, the centrist ones, the center-liberal ones and the center-right ones – said the spokesman of the Polish People’s Party.

He added that “today everyone can see what PiS’s power leads to.” – To authoritarianism, to protect one’s own interests, to protect one’s own resources. This power is not interested in Poles. Poles see it, they expressed it in Warsaw and we hope that they will express it in October [gdy mogą odbyć się wybory parlamentarne – przyp. red.] he concluded.

Gawkowski: change is possible in the fall

The head of the left-wing club Krzysztof Gawkowski assessed that “Law and Justice is afraid.” – When I see the mobilization in the country, PiS knows that this is a red line that has been crossed. They are starting to leave, we are starting to come. It will not end. I am really positive about what I saw it yesterday,” he admitted.

– It was a crowd of people, including those who once voted for PiS, saying they want change. If they want a change, this change is possible in the autumn – he pointed out.

Horała: Demonstration does not decide who rules

Deputy Minister of Funds and Regional Policy Marcin Horała (PiS) admitted that “it was a big demonstration”. – I think that it is not worth entering into dilemmas whether 100,000 or 150,000, it was a lot of people. Such demonstrations took place under the rule of Law and Justice. In the first term, there were a few, very numerous. It ended in 2019, a historic result for PiS, he said.

– In a free, democratic country in which we live, everyone has the right to demonstrate, to formulate their opinions, and who is in power is decided not by a demonstration, but by free elections – he added.
