This march is primarily a personal victory for Donald Tusk. He showed that he was implementing the plan he came back with two years ago very consistently – said Andrzej Stankiewicz from Onet on TVN24. – If such a great march, the largest for a long time, gathers under the slogan of a change of power, it is indeed a big breakthrough – assessed Mariusz Janicki from “Polityka”. In turn, according to Aleksandra Pawlicka from “Newsweek”, the opposition’s “bad streak” was broken.

He walked through the streets of Warsaw on Sunday – on the 34th anniversary of the first partially free elections – called by the leader of the Civic Platform, Donald Tusk march “against high prices, theft and lies, for free elections and democratic, European Poland”. It ended at Zamkowy Square, where Tusk spoke. Organizers reported that half a million people took part in the march.

– This is above all a personal victory of Donald Tusk. He showed that he was implementing the plan he came back with two years ago very consistently – commented Andrzej Stankiewicz from Onet in the program “Loża Prasowa” on TVN24.

In his opinion, the biggest problem for Tusk was “the deactivation of the opposition electorate, the lack of faith that it is possible to win with Kaczyński.” – It’s not like this march is the beginning of a certain phenomenon, it is a consequence of the gigantic work that Donald Tusk has done in the field in recent months – said the journalist.

As he added, “for the first time Kaczyński has someone to lose to.” – Since 2014, since Tusk’s departure, the opposition has not had a leader who could realistically defeat Kaczyński – assessed Stankiewicz.

Janicki: this march showed the face of the radical defenders of democracy

Mariusz Janicki from “Polityka” said that the march caused surprise, both on the government and opposition sides. “Even the participants were surprised by the numbers, the strength shown,” he said.

In his opinion, “this demonstration was directed both to the outside to show PiS the strength of the opposition and voters, but also to the inside.” “The opposition was very much missing such an impulse,” said the journalist.

Janicki also referred to the words of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, who said: – It makes me laugh a bit when old foxes, sitting in politics for many, many years, organize an anti-government march and present it as a spontaneous civil protest.

– It was a march in some part of PO voters, it’s natural. But if such a great march, the largest in a long time, gathers under the slogan of a change of power, then it is indeed a big breakthrough – he assessed.

He also noted the “temperature of the march”. – Liberal-democratic forces are by nature moderate, lukewarm, this has helped the populist forces for a long time. This march showed the face of the radical defenders of democracy, he said.

Pawlicka: I have the impression that the bad streak has been broken

Aleksandra Pawlicka from “Newsweek” said that this march was needed by all those who oppose the rule of PiS. The journalist gave a positive assessment Donald Tusk’s speech at Castle Square. – That was a good speech. This is the speech of the leader of the opposition. A speech is good when something remains in the person when it ends. These are not just big empty words. Tusk made his commitment, she commented.

She referred to the words of Tusk, who declared on Sunday: – We are going to these elections in order to win, to settle accounts, to repair human wrongs and in order to reconcile Polish families. You can call it Tusk’s oath, if you like this oath: victory, settlement of evil, compensation for human wrongs and reconciliation between Poles, this is our strategy.

– We have these four ingredients: we will win, settle accounts, make amends and reconcile. It’s memorable. This is a message that is important, especially in the conditions of the election campaign – said Pawlicka. She also drew attention to a fragment of Tusk’s speech, in which he said that “their great hope was our lack of hope, their strength was our helplessness.” – It was a problem that the mood and the opposition’s belief that it is possible to win, that PiS can be defeated, have subsided a bit. I have the impression that the bad streak has been broken – said the publicist.

Wieliński: these protests are no longer just about the rule of law

Bartosz Wieliński from “Gazeta Wyborcza” assessed that during the marches organized by the KOD, the anti-government demonstrations “were clinging to the government media’s narrative that these are marches of UB widows”. – This has been falsified once again today, because it is a nonsense, untrue, lying thesis – he argued.

He added that “these protests are no longer just about the rule of law, the Constitutional Tribunal, which was then such an abstract figure.” – Now the problem is women’s rights, now the problem is the ideological neutrality of the state, now the problem is the freedom of scientific research (…). We have the entry of the state, increasingly violent, into ordinary schools to indoctrinate children. These are tangible problems of the young generation – he said, commenting on the high turnout of young people at the Sunday march in Warsaw.
