Polish javelin thrower Maria Andrejczyk has auctioned off her Tokyo 2020 silver medal to assist fund coronary heart surgical procedure for an eight-month-old boy.

Andrejczyk, who got here fourth at Rio 2016, recovered from bone most cancers following a analysis in 2018, and went on to assert silver on the current Olympic Video games in Japan.

The 25-year-old wished to assist a stranger following her medal-winning feat, and stated on her Fb web page this was the primary fundraiser she stumbled upon.

Miloszek’s donation page is in search of 1.5million Polish zloty, simply over £280,000, and Andrejczyk hoped an public sale would see her medal fund half of that quantity.

On Monday, Andrejczyk confirmed Polish comfort retailer Zabka had received the public sale, with their donation and additional contributions surpassing the £140,000-mark she had hoped for.

Zabka then praised her “lovely and very noble gesture” and insisted she retains the medal.

As of Tuesday morning, the donations have been near the 90 per cent mark.
