The National Prosecutor’s Office reacted to the information provided by the President of the Supreme Audit Office, Marian Banas. She stated that “in none of the investigations conducted by all prosecutors’ offices did the prosecutors persuade witnesses or suspects to false accusations of Marian Banas”.
Marian Banaś at a conference organized on Monday at the headquarters of the Supreme Audit Office he said that “he has statements from people who have been persuaded to make false statements against him and his family.” – Instead, they were offered to leave pre-trial detention and await trial at home. Since they did not succumb to the blackmail of representatives of the prosecutor’s office and secret services, they spent almost 2.5 years in pre-trial detention, Banaś reported. He assured that “these declarations are at the disposal of the competent authorities”.
The National Public Prosecutor’s Office responds to Marian Banas’ statement
In response to Banasia’s words, the National Prosecutor’s Office issued a statement in the afternoon. “The National Prosecutor’s Office declares that the information provided today at the press conference of NIK President Marian Banas on allegedly unlawful gathering of evidence by prosecutors in the investigation in which the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Białystok wants to present charges against him is untrue,” It was added that “the materials constituting the basis for submitting the request for waiver of immunity to the President of the Supreme Audit Office are based primarily on the documentation found by the CBA as a result of several dozen searches and from banks, offices and other institutions, as well as on analyzes and opinions of experts prepared on the basis of these documents” .
“In none of the proceedings conducted by all prosecutor’s offices, the prosecutors did not persuade witnesses or suspects to falsely accuse Marian Banas,” PK stated.
According to the National Prosecutor’s Office, “Marian Banas’ statements made at the press conference are a desperate attempt to divert public attention from the merits of the criminal proceedings in his case.”
Ziobro wants to waive Banas’ immunity
At the end of July, the National Prosecutor’s Office informed that the prosecutor general, Zbigniew Ziobro, asked the Speaker of the Sejm to waive the immunity of the President of the Supreme Audit Office. Among the dozen or so charges that the prosecutor’s office intends to bring against Marian Banas, there is falsehood in asset declarations and tax declarations. According to prosecutors, Banaś was to lower the revenues from the lease of a tenement house in Krakow in the tax returns for 2015-2020. According to the prosecutor’s office, this exposed the Treasury to a loss of over PLN 50,000 from the income tax due.
