We have statements from people who were persuaded by representatives of the prosecutor’s office and services to give false testimony against me and my family – said Marian Banaś, president of the Supreme Audit Office. The head of the Supreme Audit Office organized a conference on this matter.
Marian Banaś said at a conference organized on Monday at the headquarters of the Supreme Audit Office that “never in the past has the state apparatus worked so hard to remove the president of the Supreme Audit Office”.
That is why – as he explained – he decided to “convey shocking information to the public, which in any healthy democracy would result in the dismissal of the most important officials in the state”.
– I have statements from people who have been persuaded to make false statements against me and my family. Instead, they were offered to leave pre-trial detention and await trial at home. Since they did not succumb to the blackmail of representatives of the prosecutor’s office and secret services, they spent almost 2.5 years in pre-trial detention, Banaś reported.
Banaś wants an investigative commission on Ziobro’s actions. There will be a request to the Marshal of the Sejm
The lawyer, Professor Marek Chmaj, who was present at the conference, informed that “in connection with a number of actions by the prosecutor general and his subordinate bodies, President Marian Banaś decided that he would address the Speaker of the Sejm, Elżbieta Witek and all chairmen of parliamentary clubs and circles with a motion to appoint a commission investigator to investigate the matter “.
– The scope of activities of this committee will fall within the control function of the Sejm. We want the Seym to control the activities of the prosecutor general Zbigniew Ziobro and his subordinate organs. With regard to the prosecutor general’s supervision over the prosecution authorities, in particular regarding the possibility of extorting statements against the president of the Supreme Chamber of Control, Chmaj said.
Ziobro wants to waive Banas’ immunity
At the end of July, the National Prosecutor’s Office informed that the prosecutor general, Zbigniew Ziobro, asked the Speaker of the Sejm to waive the immunity of the President of the Supreme Audit Office. Among the dozen or so charges that the prosecutor’s office intends to bring against Marian Banas, there is falsehood in asset declarations and tax declarations. According to prosecutors, Banaś was to lower the revenues from the lease of a tenement house in Krakow in the tax returns for 2015-2020. According to the prosecutor’s office, this exposed the Treasury to a loss of over PLN 50,000 from the income tax due.
