It is possible that the Sejm will consider the motion to lift the immunity of Mariusz Błaszczak, the head of the Law and Justice club, at its plenary session on Friday, said Marshal Szymon Hołownia.

Former commander's application

In May, the representative of the former Operational Commander of the Armed Forces, Gen. Tomasz Piotrowski, submitted a motion to the Sejm to repeal parliamentary immunity Błaszczak. On June 18, the motion was submitted to the Rules, Deputies' Affairs and Immunities Committee.

The applicant referred in the letter to Article 212 of the Penal Code concerning “public insult”. The application argued that Błaszczak, when he was the head of the Ministry of National Defense, “slandered the commander about conduct that exposed him to the loss of trust necessary for the position of the Operational Commander of the Armed Forces” and that Błaszczak's statements were “humiliating him in public opinion”.

The case concerned a Russian rocket that fell in a forest near Bydgoszcz in December 2022 and was discovered by accident only a few months later.

At the end of April 2023, the Ministry of National Defense reported that the remains of an unidentified military facility had been found near the town of Zamość, approximately 15 km from Bydgoszcz. It was discovered in the forest by a random person. It was emphasized at the time that the situation did not pose a threat to the safety of residents. The District Prosecutor's Office in Gdańsk has launched an investigation into the matter.

On May 11, 2023, then-Minister of National Defense Mariusz Błaszczak stated that “the procedures and response mechanisms in the case of the object found near Bydgoszcz worked correctly up to the level of the operational commander.” At that time, he accused the operational commander of the Armed Forces, Gen. Tomasz Piotrowski, of not informing him or the relevant services about the missile that had entered Polish airspace.

In October 2023, just before elections The Chief of the General Staff, Gen. Rajmund Andrzejczak, and the Operational Commander of the Armed Forces, Gen. Tomasz Piotrowski, resigned from their employment contracts after parliamentary negotiations. The President appointed Lieutenant General Wiesław Kukuła to the position of the Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Army, and Major General Maciej Klisz to the position of Operational Commander of the Armed Forces.
