The Minister of National Defense, Mariusz Błaszczak, announced at a meeting with the inhabitants of Olecko that a new military unit would be created in this city this year. – First, we will start with the temporary infrastructure. We will start quickly, because we want to get the effect quickly – said the head of the Ministry of National Defence.
On Saturday, Minister Błaszczak visited Olecko in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. The politician laid flowers at the monument to St. John Paul IIand then met the townspeople.
As he said, the basic condition for the development of the homeland is security. – We don’t want Olecko to be the second Bucza and we won’t let that happen. We will not allow it, because we are building new military units. Later this year, a military unit will be established here in Olecko, announced the Deputy Prime Minister.
In his opinion, this means security for the inhabitants of the city and the province and an important economic impulse for the region. – Still this year, and even in April, the land we acquired (…) will be used for the construction of a military unit. We’ll start with the temporary infrastructure first. We will start quickly, because we want to quickly achieve the effect in the form of a military unit – said the head of the Ministry of National Defense.
As he added, this is a squadron that will be part of the 1st Warmian Artillery Brigade, whose headquarters is located in Węgorzewo. – Experiences with Ukraine they show directly that artillery works – when it comes to the defensive capabilities of Ukrainians (…) Therefore, to prevent such an attack, we strengthen the artillery, and the 1st Mazurian Brigade from Węgorzewo is one of the most important units of the Polish Army – said Błaszczak.
“To live in peace, you need a strong army”
He recalled the words: “If you want peace, prepare for war”. He explained that as a country we are preparing for war to deter the enemy. – Living in peace is the most important thing, but to live in peace – the example of Ukraine shows it – you need a strong army. That is why we are building military units, that is why we are equipping the army with modern weapons, so that there is peace, he said. He noted that the government was acting quickly and pre-emptively to ensure Poland’s security.
He noted that after the construction of the unit in Olecko, residents will be able to work there. He stressed that it would be a stable job locally, that they would not have to leave their city.
